Gentle sharpness with airy 4K
The MicroPrime 21mm T1.6 leans towards a cinematic color palette, avoiding excessive saturation and leaving ample room for grading, making it ideal for Log / RAW workflows. Skin tones are smooth and gentle, free from “digital, razor‑edged” sharpness; complexion looks natural and refined, with rounded highlight roll‑off and clear shadow separation—perfect for documentaries, narrative shorts, and interviews.
On 4K cameras it provides plenty of detail resolution, but doesn’t chase “razor‑blade sharpness” at 100% pixel peeping. Instead, it’s tuned for an image that feels comfortable, dense, and full of air and depth as a whole.
With an image circle of 44mm, it fully covers Full-Frame. On Full-Frame it acts as a spacious 21mm wide angle, suitable for landscapes, cityscapes, and environmental portraits. On Super35 / APS‑C it’s roughly equivalent to 31.5mm, close to the classic 35mm “human‑story focal length” with a natural, easy‑to‑watch field of view—ideal for narrative and documentary work. It’s a versatile wide that can handle everything from people and streets to architecture in your everyday storytelling.
Soft, story‑driven rendering with strong character
Wide open at T1.6, center sharpness is already very usable yet never harsh, with a hint of gentle glow. The overall frame shows a subtle, refined haze; the edges naturally soften with slightly relaxed, smooth fall‑off, adding a touch of vintage flavor and creating that sweet spot of “like an old film, but without losing detail”.
At T1.6, bright light edges take on a diffusion similar to having a built‑in low‑strength Black Pro‑Mist. Highlights gently bloom, contours soften, and the image is immediately wrapped in a dreamy, vintage, almost nostalgic atmosphere. For night portraits, weddings, and moody city visuals, this kind of highlight bloom / glow becomes a distinctive signature look in your images.
The slight vignetting when wide open is not a flaw, but a compositional tool: it naturally pulls the viewer’s attention towards the center subject, while edge clutter is “softly hidden” in the darker, softened corners. It’s ideal for creating a strong sense of story and clearly defined subjects.

As a true CINE lens, the MicroPrime CINE series is engineered from the ground up to meet professional motion‑picture standards in both mechanics and handling. Its lightweight body combines cinema‑grade control with portability: internally it’s constructed like a professional cine lens, but the exterior remains compact enough for mirrorless bodies and gimbals. A 21mm focal length with a T1.6 aperture, without a massive body - especially friendly for solo operators.
Across the MicroPrime CINE lineup, weight, physical dimensions, front diameter, and gear ring positions are highly unified. Swapping between focal lengths on a gimbal usually requires little to no rebalancing, saving significant time and effort on set. The standardized 85mm front diameter is compatible with most cinema matte boxes, while the internal 82mm filter thread accepts ND, Black Mist, Pro‑Mist, and other creative filters for fast adaptation to lighting and mood.
The focus throw is a generous 150 degrees, providing smooth, precise manual control - ideal for focus pullers and still manageable for solo operators who need controlled focus transitions. An internal focus design keeps the front element from rotating or extending during focusing, which is crucial when using matte boxes, filters, or gimbals.
